The Overseas School Health Nurses Association (OSHNA) awards its annual nursing scholarship to a high school senior, attending an international or DoDEA high school. This scholarship will go to a deserving student, pursuing a degree in nursing.
OSHNA serves to promote optimal student wellness through the promotion of the specialized practice of school nursing, evidence-based practice, professional development, and mentoring of tomorrow’s leaders in nursing.
OSHNA Nursing Scholarship
Application Requirements:
High School senior. Attending an international or DoDEA high school. Plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
Selection Process:
The complete application packet will be carefully evaluated by the scholarship committee. Selection criteria are equally based on academic excellence, service and leadership, essays, and letters of reference.
Notification Process:
The OSHNA Nursing Scholarship winner will be notified via email in May. A check will be mailed directly to the recipient.

OSHNA Nursing Scholarship
- One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to an international or DoDEA high school student, pursuing a degree in nursing. The scholarship may assist with books and study materials.
- The scholarship money will be awarded via check from OSHNA.
- Notification of the award will occur in May and shared on the OSHNA website and Facebook page.

- complete application
- completed personal ID form
- two 500 word essays
- high school transcript, signed by administrator or counselor with contact information provided
- minimum 3.0 GPA
- two letters of reference, signed with contact information provided

2018-2019 Scholarship Recipient
Maddi Shumate is OSHNA's 2018-2019 Scholarship recipient!
Maddi is a student at Ramstein High School in Germany. She plans to attend Brigham Young University - Idaho to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. Maddi is a true inspiration, giving to the community with over 500 hours of selfless volunteer service to medical and humanitarian organizations. Maddi has proven academic excellence and is a honor roll student. She is an Athlete and involved in student-centered club organizations, and is also an active member of her Church and youth camp. "When I think of being a working nurse in the future, it brings me joy. It brings me joy to know that I can help people in their most vulnerable times and that I can make a difference. Although I am not a nurse yet, I feel that I am apart of something bigger than I know. Nurses make a difference in the lives of people every day, helping both sick and healthy people to lead better lives." - Maddi Shumate |

Megan Sewell - 1st Scholarship Recipient 2017-2018
Megan currently attends Kinnick High School in Yokosuka, Japan where she will graduate next week. Megan has been accepted to Xavier University where she will pursue a degree in nursing. Her desire is improve the health and overall well-being of patients. Megan has maintained academic excellence throughout her high school career. She is actively involved in the community by volunteering with the Red Cross and Special Olympics. She is the Captain and MVP of varsity tennis for Kinnick. Megan served as the senior editor for the yearbook and committee member for Diversity Day.
The OSHNA Scholarship will help Megan pay for her housing and meal expenses for her first year of college.
